Our Style...
Where most styles of the Martial Arts strictly focus upon the physical development of either the lower body (Tae Kwon Do) or the upper body (Hapkido) KUN GEK DO (pronounced "qwon gyuk do") gives equal emphasis to skills inherent in both. Traditionally, it is a blend of Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai kickboxing. Moreover, while our style is steeped in the traditions of classical styles, it is also viewed as demonstrating more practical, proven self-defense techniques that work. Our students are well prepared for any situation everyday life may present.

The Tenets of Kun Gek Do describe a lifestyle that all students are taught by example. These Tenets will help them lead a better life for themselves as well as for those around them. By consistently striving to develop this type of character, the student is enabled to live a peaceful and harmonious life which further promotes the well-being of others and community.
While teaching practical self-defense skills, we teach a philosophy of non-violence since a main goal of the Martial Arts is to cultivate a person 's mind and body; not to use it as a means to "show off' and show vanity, or to vent one's anger, frustration, or emotional difficulties. Physical confrontation should be avoided whenever possible; force is only condoned in self-defense or in defense of those who are defenseless. This describes our goal of "Black Belt Excellence." These are our ethics ... This is the way we choose to live ... From our Student Creed:
"I intend to use what I learn in class constructively and defensively to help my fellow human beings and myself, and never to be abusive or offensive."
Our Focus...
RESPECT, LOYALTY, CONFIDENCE, RESPONSIBILITY, HONOR
Instilled in our students is the idea that these behaviors are not simply a set of qualities to demonstrate only in certain situations. Instead, in totality, they define a "way of being" at all times. Whether it is in the dojang, home, school, work, or with friends, all of our students, from our preschool "Mini Mites" and "Ninja Turtles" to our adults, are expected to consistently demonstrate these qualities as a lifestyle choice.
Our Instructors...
Master Kee H. Kim and his family have been studying the Martial Arts for many, many generations. All of our nationally and internationally certified instructors are reflections of him and his teachings. However, rather than tell you about all of his and our other instructors' championships and belt rankings, we prefer to focus on our students. Certainly, we are proud of our instructors' accomplishments ... However, we are more proud of our students' achievements. Our instructors understand that each student's individual progress should be the main focus of their attention. That's why our instructors continue to be students themselves. They take classes, attend seminars, and continually work to improve their ability to help our students reach their goals.

The NKI Family is just that... a family. From the never ending support demonstrated by students for each other in every class, to the love, heart, and dedication shown by our instructors and staff to each and every student, the warmth and positive energy is felt as soon as you walk through the door. Our Programs...
We pride ourselves in being much more than a "karate school". We are an educational facility with a set, long-term curriculum. We are very concerned with the well-being and education of our children from our pre-schoolers to our teenagers. We understand that younger students have shorter attention spans. We are also aware of the numerous studies that have found that children in the Martial Arts have an increased sense of responsibility, a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks, and a higher self-esteem. Armed with this knowledge, our unique children's programs use interesting and enjoyable methods to keep our young students' attention and teach them life long lasting skills.
